About the school:
The school was a continuation of the traditional and highly successful series of summer schools on physics of nanostructures, surfaces and thin films held every three years in the Czech Republic. The school programme aims at presenting current directions of research at both tutorial as well as state-of-the-art level. The fields were represented by eminent scientists in the fields of surface science, interfaces and nano-structures, nanomechanics, nano-photonics and spin electronics. The school also connects the areas of fundamental research to the vital areas of technology: nano-electronics, renewable energy and life science applications.
The school provided a place where students and young researchers could learn from invited leading scientists, discuss their own research plans and make contacts. It was organized with support by IUVSTA and also it was part of an outreach activities of FP7 project PolySiMode,
project OPVK 2.4 – Research4Industry, CEITEC and Czech Nanoteam.
Traditionally, the school took place at Devět Skal in the relaxing environment of a small recreation resort hidden in the forests at the Czech-Moravian highlands, half way between Prague and Brno. The resort offers environment ideal both for discussing science as well as relaxing afterwards.
