IUVSTA international school on "Science and Technology at Nanoscale" was
held from 6th to 11th June 2005 at Tři Studně in the Czech Republic. The
school continued the series of summer schools presenting the progress in
the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology to PhD students and young
The school brought together 114 people (13 speakers, 93 participants and 8
company representatives) from 14 countries. The invited speakers from
leading world laboratories have presented the latest progress in the
fields ranging from fundamental atomic-scale processes to devices (see the
programme). Many participants presented their research in a lively poster
session with 42 presentations. During the company evening, profiles of
13 companies were exhibited.
The school duration was only one week, but its preparation took nearly two
years and involved several organizations. We would like to thank most of
all the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique, and
Applications (IUVSTA) for its generous contribution. Local organization of
the school relied on the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences
of the Czech Republic and on the Brno University of Technology, but
involved also other universities and societies (Czech Physical Society,
Czech Vacuum Society and the Czech Nanoteam).
The school organization benefitted also from the support of several
companies and here we would like to thank them again.
The school proceedings is available on CD-ROM and includes the
presentations of the speakers, posters, company profiles, contacts and
references to other information resources. For further information please
contact the school organizers or check the school web page at http://www.fzu.cz/~iss.
Finally, let us look forward to the next summer school, due to be held in
